"This book was really good, but the slow burn was a bit much for me lol! I loved Bjorn so much! I liked Freya, I think she's so strong and a really great character, but I just failed to connect with her. I absolutely loved the Mythology aspect, and the world building was really good! Forced proximity, forbidden romance, insta lust but VERY slow burn, touch her and die! It ended on a bit of a cliffhanger, so I'm already dying for the second book! "
"✨ ARC REVIEW ✨
thank you Random House and NetGalley for the ARC approval ❤️❤️
First of all let me start out by saying.. the end? 🫦😮💨🥵🥵 I was starting to wonder if this book had any spice to it at all but the end really sent me. This is a fast paced book full of magic and violence and really just kept me on my toes the whole time. Personally I found the FMC a little annoying despite it being in her POV (hence the four star rating) but I loved the MMC. I had never read any Norse-inspired writings before. If you are into Vikings and such like it, this book is for you. This made me very reminiscent of my Skyrim playing days.
This book is packed full of tropes such as enemies to lovers, slow burn, and chosen one. Of course she had to end it with a betrayal and a cliff hanger. The end had me wanting more and I can’t wait to see what she does with the rest of the series!"
"4.5 ⭐️s I LOVED Bjorn. He is everything. While it fit with the storyline, the main character, Freya, got on my nerves in the last part of the book. I do have hope that she will be redeemed in the next book. This was a magical and adventurous book with a good romance that I read quickly and thoroughly enjoyed. "
"As someone who typically reads mystery/thrillers I found the foreshadowing in this novel to be a bit on the nose. It was quite easy for me to see how the story was going to shift far before it started to do so. It was nice to not be guessing at the ending, but it did make the story seem painfully slow moving at times. The relationship between Freya and Bjorn was also slower than slow. I understand slow burn romances but this was almost painfully slow and ultimately we only got two scenes from a 430 page book. I was wishing for a bit more. Hopefully book two will remedy these issues."
"One of the best Norse mythology stories out there. Kept me on the edge of my seat. I was completely lost in the world Freya lived in, the battles strategies were well written. The gods were accurate and the way they used them in their daily lives were perfect. I would’ve loved to see more bind-rune action but hopefully more of that will be in the second book. Freya is a strong character and I hope to see more of her personality grow without obsessing over Bjorn lol.
Spoilers:!
I saw Bjorn’s betrayal coming from a mile away and wasn’t surprised when it happened. I truly hope Freya moves on from him and becomes more independent in herself. "
"Great read, love the twists and turns. So many new things you are unraveling or discovering. However toward the end freya’s character started to irk me. Hard to explain without spoilers, but she was written strong minded and determined to slowly turn into a guilt ridden martyr . And it annoyed me. "
"A primitive fantasy of fate, desire and magic gifted from the gods leaving a cliffhanger making you immediately wish for the next to continue this raw story of savage men that will do anything to rule over all. <br/><br/><i>“You’ve never been alone. I will be at your back until I cross the threshold to Valhalla Born In Fire, whether you want me there or not.” </i>"
