From the New York Times & USA Today bestselling author of Black Sunshine and River of Shadows comes a new dark vampire romance about the vampire known as Dracula. Once there was a man who fell deeply in love with a woman he could never have. When their affair was uncovered she was brutally murdered in front of him, and he discovered he was cursed, doomed to live forever as a vampire. Over the centuries, he found his love again, and lost her again, until he was so broken he gave up on love entirely, sinking into the depths of depravity, losing his humanity. Then one day, she came back into his life. A student of music studying under him at the conservatory in Venice, Italy where he was a professor. But even though he found her beautiful and intriguing, he didn't recognize his fated mate at all. Because this time she had to hide her true self. This time she came back as a witch, whose destiny wasn't to love him...but to kill him. Blood Orange is a modern-day Dracula retelling about the "real-life" Dracula that inspired Bram Stoker. This is a dark vampire romance with plenty of content warnings (please check interior of book) and while it is a spinoff of The Dark Eyes Duet, it can be read as a standalone.

"*Check trigger warnings*

Read this in a day. I'm in freaking love. Captivating, very atmospheric, and brutal. Good grief I am a complete sucker for heartache and this had plenty to go around. AND WHAT AN ENDING! Thought I knew how the finale would play out. Boy was I floored.

Don't worry, Blood Orange did not include the typical tropes. Honestly, it was madness and I was all in from the beginning. Usually, Vampire romances include a woman compelled by a hot vampire. But this was more about fate. Destinies intertwined, history forced to repeat itself. Soul-crushing inevitable defeat. Ya got me Karina Halle hook line and sinker.

This takes place in the modern day with a Gothic Venice atmosphere. And can I just say the author includes a Spotify Playlist and I bow down to the because man does music bring a story to life. As I said this story is a mess. It's not perfect. There are morally grey characters, death, heartbreak, and cowards. And that my friends is realistic and relatable.

The chemistry yaaaaaaas. These two were literally destined for each other. And the **** was top-notch. *standing ovation* I keep playing back scenes on repeat in my head and that is a compliment. Dahlia is an undercover witch with Vampire slayer tendencies. Valtu is Dracula in the flesh. By day he is a reserved music professor..... yes you heard me correctly.... and yes it makes him hotter and by night a wild animal. His shift changes making him all the more intriguing.

Dahlia is very smart playing the game but inevitably she falls in too deep. Valtu is possessive and seemingly trying not to get his heart broken a third time. I couldn't get enough. Came into this story with a blank slate and left not knowing how much time had passed while I was immersed. And oh man the epilogue, chiefs kiss. Could not sleep till the last page and a few chapters of book two haha."
"Katrina can never fail in my eyes! This was an amazing read!"

"Technically there are a lot of things in this book that didn’t really add up but I don’t want to think about that because I am obsessed with Dahlia and Valtu so. UPDATE: I think I am more obsessed with the idea of your soulmate being reincarnated to come back and find you again that’s what made the book to me"
