"Courage for Beginners is about a girl named Mysti finding courage to survive seventh grade. Her best friend Anibal Gomez her to become a hipster. With her dad in the hospital, her mother won't leave the house. Mysti wishes she was a character in a book so she could change it all. Seventh grade is not going as planned.

Courage for beginners is a good book. I wish Mysti didn't make up names for people she doesn't know by what they wear or do. Such as "girl who wears scarf". She also refers to herself as "girl" every once in a while. Other than that it was a great book. Karen does a great job describing the characters."
