Rina Kent
My forbidden husband.I kissed my father's best friend and it kind of didn't go well. Not only because he's eighteen years older than me-but he also didn't like it.Not one bit.In my defense, I didn't mean to fall for him. It just happened.Nathaniel Weaver is the most attractive man I've ever seen with enough charisma to blind the sun. He's bigger than the world, owns half of it and conquered the other half.He was forbidden. Wrong. So I totally got over him. Or so I told myself.Until we're forced to get married. Now I'm trapped. But maybe he's trapped too.Because we're both reaching for that forbidden fruit dangling between us.Empire of Desire is a complete STANDALONE. No other books should be read prior to this.

"Wowza, this heroine is UNLIKABLE!

Look, at this point, I know I don't admire Rina Kent for her heroines...

In fact, I don't think I've enjoyed any of the heroines she has written so far.

Her heroines all somehow collectively suffer from no backbone and betraying body syndrome, but thankfully, Rina does that in a more... digestable way, I guess? Unlike other authors who write the worst of it...

So I can take it, for the most part, even though y'all know that I MUCH prefer stronger heroines who stand their ground and make the heroes grovel till their knees bleed.

But I have accepted that I unfortunately will never get a heroine like that from Rina Kent, and I am okay with that.

But Gwen, this heroine in particular, I really dislike!

She is jealous for absolutely no reason. She outright says she HATES...and yes, the word hate, she say she hates Aspen. All Aspen literally does is EXIST... quite literally.

This woman has done nothing to Gwen and most of the time, Gwen is not even on her radar, but for some reason Gwen sees Aspen as this big witch who's after Nate...

Gwen is ******* delusional.

It is exhausting and annoying to me as a reader to listen to Gwen react so irrationally. Her monologues are exhausting because of that.

Another reason why this book isn't vibing with me is the weird gendered tid bits.

Why is everything Nate does "masculine?"

Nate walks, Gwen claims he's walking so masculine-ly,

Nate breathes, Gwen waxes poetic how Nate is breathing in such a masculine way...

Lol WHAT DOES THAT EVEN MEAN?

it's amusing, yes, but after a bit, it just gets ridiculous and grating.

At some point, I think Gwen even categorized his "swearing" as masculine...?

Huh?

But Nate is not off the hook either, because I've lost count of how many times he's lamented about how tiny Gwen is.

Um, is this heroine a child?

Her tiny waist, her tiny hands, her tiny nose, etc, looks so "small against him."

I felt a little weird listening to that, lol.

Is there some type of size kink I'm not aware of?"
"I love Rina and never thought I’d give one of her books less than 4⭐️ but giving 3 is more because Rina is one of my favs.

Gwenyth is a 12 year old in a 20 year old’s body. She behaves like a child not a 20yr old college student. She grated my nerves with her juvenile behavior. I didn’t even like the female narrators voice. I have no issue with age gap romances hell thats my reality but how he dealt with her is crazy."
"Sweet baby Jesus, I need an Uncle Nate.

After reading so many mixed reviews, I do what I do best. I went in with an open mind and judged myself. I always love an honest review, negative or positive, unless they are bashing the reader or the author.

At Gwyneth’s eighteenth birthday party, she kissed Nate, her father's best friend. Nate, however, didn’t reciprocate. Now twenty years old, the unthinkable happens, and for convenience, she marries Nate. On paper only.

I didn’t know what to think of Gwen in the beginning; my heart broke for her. My first impression, she is too needy for me, and desperately needs a mother figure. I’m here to tell you that she won my heart in the end. Don't mess with her loved ones. That girl is fierce. Great character development.

Nate, he is sexy and dirty as all hell. He is right up my alley. When Nate has his mindset on something, he is full steam ahead. And oh so possessive and protective.

Nate and Gwen are so much alike. Both with some of the same issues. If any two people belong together, it’s these two. I love some side characters and some I couldn’t stand. There is a major twist in the book. I mean, this is Rina Kent after all. Just follow the bread crumbs. The book is full steam ahead. Thank you to the author for writing outside the box on her sex scenes.

Let's talk about Kingsley. the father. I give him credit for being a single father; however, his actions are toxic and he refused to let his daughter grow up.

I love a good Rina Kent book. When she posted that it was going to be outside her normal range, I said why not. I still like her writing. I am up for the challenge. My only constructive criticism is for me, I wanted to see a little more angst.

I have to add to all my Goodreads reviewers I have to give thanks to all who bashed the readers and author; you pushed me to read this, and I ended up loving it. To all those who wrote a constructive review, negative or positive, I also thank you, you keep me going, and I love your reviews.

Books are subjective to the reader. What I like, you may not like, and vice versa. I suggest staying away from saying whoever said this is the best book is lying, or they don’t know better. We all have different views. That is the beauty of it all."
