Blending the iconoclastic feminism of The Notorious RBG and the confident irreverence of Go the F**ck to Sleep, a brazen and empowering illustrated collection that celebrates inspirational badass women throughout history, based on the popular Tumblr blog. Well-behaved women seldom make history. Good thing these women are far from well behaved . . . Illustrated in a contemporary animation style, Rejected Princesses turns the ubiquitous "pretty pink princess" stereotype portrayed in movies, and on endless toys, books, and tutus on its head, paying homage instead to an awesome collection of strong, fierce, and yes, sometimes weird, women: warrior queens, soldiers, villains, spies, revolutionaries, and more who refused to behave and meekly accept their place. An entertaining mix of biography, imagery, and humor written in a fresh, young, and riotous voice, this thoroughly researched exploration salutes these awesome women drawn from both historical and fantastical realms, including real life, literature, mythology, and folklore. Each profile features an eye-catching image of both heroic and villainous women in command from across history and around the world, from a princess-cum-pirate in fifth century Denmark, to a rebel preacher in 1630s Boston, to a bloodthirsty Hungarian countess, and a former prostitute who commanded a fleet of more than 70,000 men on China’s seas.

"I've been reading this collection over the course of several months - reading a few princesses a day. I love the tone of the author, mixing humor with historical facts. The artwork is interesting as well. In the e-book version there are a lot of asterisks that don't seem to line up properly with footnotes - for that reason the physical book is probably better.

There were a lot of women in this book I didn't know and others I knew but learned new/different things about them.

Some of the most horrific bios are left to the end (horrific in the things that are done to some of these women). I can see why the author wouldn't want to put them in the beginning and scare people off, but I felt having all of them at the end kind of finished the book on a sad note.

I highly recommend this book. A very informative and entertaining read."
"The only problem I can find with this book is that the entries are so short...some of them merely two pages. I wanted to delve deeper into some of these women. However, the author tells us there is more information on his website, and provides a bibliography for every woman he features, so he's fixed my problems before I even finished the book. Well done.

This book is a fun read, and amazingly, even when the stories are at their most tragic, the author manages to keep things (relatively) light while still allowing some moments to have the weight they deserve. The cartoon illustrations of each princess are wonderful and often come with art notes, to help you identify all the elements in each picture, which made me marvel at the art even more, knowing how much detail went into it.

An easy read that can be put down and picked back up easily, I think this is well worth anyone's time."
