Lucy Knisley
In 2010, Lucy and her long-term boyfriend John broke up. Three long, lonely years later, John returned to New York, walked into Lucy's apartment, and proposed. This is not that story. It is the story of what came after: The Wedding.DIY maven Lucy Knisley was fascinated by American wedding culture . . . but also sort of horrified by it. So she set out to plan and execute the adorable DIY wedding to end all adorable DIY weddings. And she succeeded. This graphic novel, Something New--clocking in at almost 300 pages of humor, despair, and eternal love--is the story of how Lucy built a barn, invented a whole new kind of photo booth, and managed to turn an outdoor wedding on a rainy day into a joyous (though muddy) triumph.

"as someone currently going through this, I found this book both funny and relieving.
it's even more comforting to know how many more traditions we're dodging because our needs don't make them necessary. no elaborate dress, no DJ, no building entire structures (there's eight straight pages of DIY crafts the author made for her wedding, which to me is an insane amount of labor), no engagement rings, no bridesmaids, no bridal/stag party, no church, etc.
and i'm even more grateful that i've always had the same long term goals as my wife; being put in a three year cycle of hell bc kidlets are incompatible with both people sounds impossible. i am so lucky and tell her so frequently."
"<strong>Uneven</strong><br/><br/>I feel like this author did a really good job when the characters were having conversations but phoned it in the rest of the time. I never got a feel for the setting and the entire book feels incredibly rushed, especially the ending. It was a rather dull story. It was also an odd choice to have his pov be 3rd person but hers be in the 1st person. The main characters were fine but at one point John Michael lets us know that he wants to "tame" Sadie and that's just way too archaic for me."
