"(2.5 stars) I really thought I would like this book, the summaries made it seem promising. It was anything but. The pacing was horrible and the writing was choppy & jumpy. I do not care for any of the characters and could not for the life of me connect with them. I feel like I couldn’t get a grasp of who the characters were. Like the author kept changing her mind of how she wanted them to be. I’m still going to read the second book but I would not recommend this book. I don’t care how it ends just that it does. "
"I really wanted to get into this book l, but couldn't. It started off strong, then it coasted for far too long. The main love interests and nothing in common for the reader except a strong sexual attraction, apparently there are more secrets of them together but how am I supposed to know that. Honestly felt more like a hodgepodge of fantasy fanfic than an opening book for a romantacy series. 5/10"
"The Stars Are Dying by C.C. Penaranda is the first book in the Nytefall series, a captivating dark fantasy that combines celestial beings, fae, and vampires with a story of self-discovery. The plot follows Astraea, a young woman who has lost her memory, and Nyte, a mysterious character who plays a pivotal role in her journey. Together, they uncover secrets that tie Astraea to a world full of hidden truths, political intrigue, and supernatural danger.
While I rated this book 3 stars, the story did take a while to grab my attention. The slow start and pacing were a bit of a hurdle, but once the plot began to unfold, I became more invested. The chemistry between Astraea and Nyte is undeniable and fiery from the beginning, and as the book progresses, you start to understand Nyte's complex nature and motivations, especially in his relationship with Astraea.
Despite my initial struggles with the pacing, the characters and their growing dynamic were enough to keep me hooked. The book’s world-building is immersive, and I’m eager to see how the plot continues in the next installment. I recently received an ARC for book two, and I’m looking forward to diving deeper into the Nytefall series."
"This book is...complicated
First of all do not read the prologue, once I read it, it confused the heck out of me and I couldn't understand what was going on in the prologue until more then halfway through the book.
This novel has so much potential and I see how Chloe C. Peñaranda has an idea but oh my goodness the amount of times I had to reread(and I never reread unless it's a pg or 2) was annoying. There are so many characters and plots and goals the mc invests in, that as a reader I got lost way to many times.
I continued reading because I found that I couldn't put the book down, unless of course I didn't wanted to look like a zombie in the morning :)
And finally if it doesn't bother you, I'd still go through the hassle and read it again, it really has potential in some sense, I almost wish it was a movie...

"This book was good, but I think it was a bit long. I am a quick reader, but found myself forgetting certain aspects of this story. There were a few times I was confused as well - the story can be a bit hard to follow at points. Overall though, I was entertained and invested in Nyte and Astraea!"
"Dropped at 40%<br/>I just didn’t like the writing style and nothing intrigued me."

"Thank you to Macmillan Audio for this advanced audiobook via NetGalley. <br/><br/>I wanted to like this book. The synopsis had so much promise. It had a lot of potential for world-building, different creatures and gods, and a cool magic system, but I felt like we got a minimal explanation for any of those things. <br/><br/>I did not find the FMC or MMC likeable. They had no chemistry to me. Basically I just felt like <spoiler>the FMC became obsessed over this mystery man she had a 2 minute encounter with. I swear for 60% of the book I thought she was hallucinating.</spoiler><br/><br/>The saving grace in this book to me were the side characters. I found the other contestants, Astrea's best friend, and even the servants far more interesting than the two leading characters. I think that was the driving force for me finishing this book."
"Wow, this book was full of surprises. Just sitting here, reading along, saying to myself “There’s NO WAY she doesn’t realize XYZ, it’s so obvious.” Only to find out that XYZ is only the tiniest fraction of huge bomb that’s about to drop the last quarter of the book. I thoroughly enjoyed this book, it gave off an air from so many of my favorite series all compiled into one. Like Romeo and Juliet meets FBAA meets a Caraval with a tiny nod to Hunger Games (very tiny nod), meets a little ACOTAR/TOG, even a tiny dash of Red Queen… but only little sprinkles of all of those to give you this absolute gem of a story. Definitely recommend, and it’s currently on KU, if anyone wants to check it out."
