"Started off strong with some useful insights, but became a bit repetitive and preachy"

"This book was not what I was expecting. the concepts in the book paired well with the mindfulness class I took over the summer. Unfortunately much of it I found I had already learned from other books though there's no problem with reinforcement. what I did really enjoy was the concept of wishing wellness to other people when you need wellness in your life. By wishing wellness to other people You're allowing that kind of gratitude for yourself. Throughout my life I've struggled with situational depression. If I want compassion for myself I should wish compassion for people who have depression. Why just wish it for myself when I could wish it for everyone. The book goes more in depth about why this is impactful but it's something small that I think might bring a little more joy to my life. What I really found interesting was the idea of focusing on the outbreath when meditating. It did make me feel claustrophobic but so does pretty much all forms of meditation. However focusing on the out-breath allows just a little bit of space when you're not having an outbreath when you're breathing in and it is a very interesting experience that I might play around with in the future. One last thing that she talks about is allowing yourself to sit in discomfort or do things that are uncomfortable and realize that that is a normal part of life and not try to escape it. As I'm going about my project work I will keep this idea of diving into the uncomfortable and see where it takes me."
