"A fever dream is accurate. Also, quite funny. I don't think the author intended this to be a funny story, but the interactions between the married couple, their kid, and also the shopkeeper or rather how the guy records it in his journal made me giggle a bit. I think it's funnier because it was not supposed to be funny, but they're adults acting like children.<br/><br/>This story is like if House of Leaves was rediscovered in Germany. A lot of the same atmosphere. An improvement in the way a lot of the fluff has been cut. I couldn't put this book down and finished it in one sitting. I didn't know it was made into a movie. No doubt the book is better though."
