A family’s fresh start in a quaint British village turns into a waking, ghost-ridden nightmare in this chilling folk horror story about tradition, evil, and the Great Plague. Fleeing from a traumatic break-in, Londoners Paul and Tricia Feenan sell up to escape to the isolated Holiwell village where Tricia has inherited a property. Scattered throughout the settlement are centuries-old stones used during the Great Plague as boundary markers. No plague-sufferer was permitted to pass them and enter the village. The plague diminished, and the village survived unscathed . . . Since then, the village trustees have insisted on an annual ancient ceremony to renew the village boundaries. But then a misguided act by the Feenans’ son sends the village into a frenzy, reminding everyone that there’s a reason traditions have been stuck to so rigidly—and that all acts of betrayal, even those committed centuries ago, have dire consequences.

"Well, I was hooked on this book from the moment I picked it up. The amount of plot twists made me dizzy but satisfied. This was a story built perfectly around suspense and horror and JB delivered beautifully. We meet Toby, Trish and Peter who are dubiously brought in to a situation that’s, messed up to say the least. Dark and twisty paths lay ahead with The Trust, and Her. I still don’t know how to feel about Nash, is he a hero we don’t understand, martyr, or just a basic human blinded by greed? Some of his dealings are left unresolved but maybe they weren’t necessarily part of the main story but simply necessary catalysts? I wish we would have had a small bit of an answer either way. I think the ending, for the type of story this was, was perfectly chosen. I am almost hopeful that this won’t be the last time we hear of Pesta. I feel like she’s not done brooming or raking about just yet."
"This was pretty good!!! The writing was a bit slow and kinda bland to me for most of the book, but that Ending was GREAT!!!!! I also didn't really like any of the main protagonists until the very end (and even then I only liked one). However, I LOVED the antagonist and really felt for Her!!! Overall a very good read and I'd definitely read it again and even recommend it if you like spooky stories!!!"
