“A gloriously over-the-top scare fest that has hidden depths. Readers will root for Kris all the way to the explosive, poignant finale.”—Publishers WeeklyFrom the New York Times best-selling author of The Southern Book Club’s Guide to Slaying Vampires. Only a girl with a guitar can save us all. Every morning, Kris Pulaski wakes up in hell. In the 1990s she was lead guitarist of Dürt Würk, a heavy-metal band on the brink of breakout success until lead singer Terry Hunt embarked on a solo career and rocketed to stardom, leaving his bandmates to rot in obscurity. Now Kris works as night manager of a Best Western; she’s tired, broke, and unhappy. Then one day everything changes—a shocking act of violence turns her life upside down, and she begins to suspect that Terry sabotaged more than just the band. Kris hits the road, hoping to reunite Dürt Würk and confront the man who ruined her life. Her journey will take her from the Pennsylvania rust belt to a celebrity rehab center to a satanic music festival. A spine-tingling horror novel, We Sold Our Souls is an epic journey into the heart of a conspiracy-crazed, pill-popping, paranoid country that seems to have lost its very soul.

"We Sold Our Souls is such a fun read. It's an addicting story, and I think I tore through it within 24 hours. I want to say up front that I am not a metal fan, and this is the second metal horror book I've read this year. I ended up loving both. So if you are not a metal fan, either, and are avoiding this one, please go for it. This is a story you don't want to miss.

I feel like this book loses some steam at the end. It seemed like it was ramping up to something more sinister, and I guess it was a bit anti-climactic. I still enjoyed it very much as a whole, though.

I don't think that this book is necessarily scary, but it deals with a lot of horror elements. I think it hits closer to horror comedy at some points like My Best Friend's Exorcism.

I liked the characters in this book. Quite a few of them are fleshed out pretty well, and I really enjoyed hearing their stories. We Sold Our Souls has a good feminist message, and some things that came up in the book hit a little close to home. This book went deeper than I expected it to, and it has a lot of heart."
"A fast and fun frolic through the Heavy Metal scene, and the struggle for the independence of your soul (literally!). Grady Hendrix is a master of amusing pop culture references, and mixing an exciting and to the point story with deep emotional complexities, like the breakdown of friendships, sense of self, and shifting power dynamics on a personal, societal, and spiritual level. A great way to look at the idea of sacrificing everything for a shot at fame and fortune, relevant in todays highly consumerist society. "
