"I wish I could give this 4.5 stars! Wonderful and emotional read. Author Lisa Scottoline did an excellent job researching and preserving the accuracy of history in this novel, with some of the characters even based on real life people. This will take you through the difficult decisions we make in life, and through love, heartbreak and loss, and then love again. It offers a heart wrenching view into life during the rule of Hitler and Mussolini and what the families of that time endured. I found the novel did get a little slow toward the mid point, otherwise this would be a 5 star! "
