That's how she became student body president. Varsity soccer star. And it's how she'll get into Stanford. But she's never had a boyfriend. In fact, she's a disaster at romance, a clumsy, stammering humiliation magnet whose botched attempts at flirting have become legendary with her friends. So when the hottest human specimen to have ever lived walks into her life one day, Desi finds guidance in the Korean dramas her father has been obsessively watching for years—where the hapless heroine always seems to end up in the arms of her true love by episode ten. It's a simple formula, and Desi is a quick study. Armed with her "K Drama Steps to True Love," Desi goes after the moody, elusive artist Luca Drakos—and boat rescues, love triangles, and staged car crashes ensue. But when the fun and games turn to true feels, Desi finds out that real love is about way more than just drama.A Margaret Ferguson Book

"3.5

First, this was a low priority on my TBR, but I picked it up because I got into K-dramas recently and thought this concept was really intriguing. Another thing is I haven't really read any YA in years, so some things were just a little too juvenile for me. However, the concept was cool and refreshing, and the cast of characters was entertaining... except Desi. Desi reminded me of Rory Gilmore, but the Rory we see when she is dating Logan. Desi was a little too controlling and seemingly perfect for my tastes. I do understand that that is the point of the book, but I wasn't that fond of it. Plus she put Luca in literal danger like three times?!?

The side characters and the love interest Luca are what made the book for me. Luca was a very cliched mysterious arsty guy, but it worked for the whole k-drama recreation and he was just adorable and sweet? Like protect him at all costs. The flirtatious Wes and the stunning lesbian Fiona were the best best friends anyone could ask for. Desi's relationship with her dad felt so familiar and made my heart all warm. I believe the main theme of the novel was finding connections.

This ultimately could have been a solid 4-star read, but I had two major issues with it. First, I only began to really enjoy the story once the k-drama formula list was set aside. And second, I really dislike when the conflict of a story is introduced in the last 30 pages.

I do recommend this to anyone who enjoys k-dramas, as it is insanely accurate to the k-drama formula. AND Maurene Goo actually includes a starter guide to k-dramas at the end, so there are recommendations right at your fingertips for a marathon after you finish her book."
"Holy crap this is so good. Main character is Desi who can’t flirt, sneezed on a guy, dropped her pants in front of a guy and the guy she dropped her pants in front of is a transfer student named Lica. They are both seniors and Desi really likes this guy and her dad loves K drama so she watches multiple with her dad and writes the steps to get a guy which ends up torturing Luca but they have so many cute moments, a break up, and getting reunited. Luca is an art guy and Desi is the smartest kid in school which is my favorite type of story. She even missed her Stanford interview to be there for him when his mom went into the hospital for something stupid which caused her to get rejected from her dream school. Luca comes over every time he misses her, watches shows with her and her dad, and helps her when she’s sick. It is honestly adorable and Luca is just the most perfect helpful guy. I read 85 pages one day and 233 the next, this is a book you can’t put down and is sooo good. Must reread."
"For lovers of K dramas, sweet cringe moments, and crazy brave female leaders this the story for you. The main character Dezzy is a beautiful example for if you fight for what you want and take steps to get there you can obtain in. Life is what you make of it and love is the same way. I absolutely love her love story and binging this book in two days ❤. #ibelieveinathingcalledlove #romantic_comedy #kdramareference"
