Gareth Hinds
Fresh from his triumphs in the Trojan War, Odysseus, King of Ithaca, wants nothing more than to return home to his family. Instead, he offends the sea god, Poseidon, who dooms him to years of shipwreck and wandering. Battling man-eating monsters, violent storms, and the supernatural seductions of sirens and sorceresses, Odysseus will need all his strength and cunning--and a little help from Mount Olympus--to make his way home and seize his kingdom from the schemers who seek to wed his queen and usurp his throne. Award-winning graphic artist Gareth Hinds masterfully reinterprets a story of heroism, adventure, and high action that has been told and retold for more than 2,500 years--though never quite like this. With bold imagery and an ear tuned to the music of Homer’s epic poem, Gareth Hinds reinterprets the ancient classic as it’s never been told before.

"Gareth Hinds' adaptation of "The Odyssey" into a graphic novel format brings a fresh perspective to Homer's classic tale of heroism, adventure, and the quest for home. Hinds' artwork is commendable for its ability to capture the high action and the epic scope of the original story, making it accessible and engaging for a modern audience. However, the adaptation falls short in fully conveying the depth and complexity of the original characters and their emotional journeys. While the graphic novel format inherently condenses and simplifies, some of the nuance and richness of Homer's narrative are lost in translation. Additionally, readers familiar with the epic might find the adaptation lacking in detail and the development of secondary characters and subplots. Despite these shortcomings, Hinds' "The Odyssey" is a visually striking and entertaining introduction to the story, suitable for those new to the epic or looking for a different medium to experience it. Overall, it earns a 3 out of 5 for its artistic achievement but leaves room for improvement in narrative depth."
