Hard Work Will Pay Off Later. Laziness Pays Off Now. Let's get one thing straight - Ivy Wilde is not a heroine. In fact, she's probably the last witch in the world who you'd call if you needed a magical helping hand. If it were down to Ivy, she'd spend all day every day on her sofa where she could watch TV, munch junk food and talk to her feline familiar to her heart's content. However, when a bureaucratic disaster ends up with Ivy as the victim of a case of mistaken identity, she's yanked very unwillingly into Arcane Branch, the investigative department of the Hallowed Order of Magical Enlightenment. Her problems are quadrupled when a valuable object is stolen right from under the Order's noses. It doesn't exactly help that she's been magically bound to Adeptus Exemptus Raphael Winter. He might have piercing sapphire eyes and a body which a cover model would be proud of but, as far as Ivy's concerned, he's a walking advertisement for the joyless perils of too much witch-work. And if he makes her go to the gym again, she's definitely going to turn him into a frog.

"Okay, when I first spent a credit on this one, I really thought I had made a mistake. It sounded interesting for a moment, but then doubt set in. I don't particularly like witchy books. What was I thinking?! So it sat unlistened to. And then I ran out of other books and browsing and not finding anything better, I decided I'd give it a few chapters.

I had doubts for no reason. This was a fun book. It was the combination of both storytelling and narration. Tanya Eby put her own magic touch on this and I just darn near fell in love in the first few chapters.

I'm not a fan of witchy books. I love all manners of the paranormal, but never have cared much for witches. Why? I can't say. I have liked and loved a select few books with witches, so there was a good chance I'd hate this. But this was great. This isn't like some of the other books I've read. No magic wands, secret societies, or anything of the like. I really liked the whole drawing of runes and such in this. Even more, I loved Ivy's unwillingness of this. She was thrust into a role she didn't want. But once she was there, she made the most of it. And plus, there is Winters. I'm really excited to see what the next book holds for these two."
"Meh, but I’m going to keep going with the series. Could have been the bad narrator for the audiobook. Total mismatch. Going to try and read the next one and get the voice out of my head. "
