#1 New York Times Bestseller * An Amazon Best Book of the YearThere’s no such thing as safe in a city at war, a city overrun with monsters. In this dark urban fantasy from acclaimed author Victoria Schwab, a young woman and a young man must choose whether to become heroes or villains—and friends or enemies—with the future of their home at stake. The first of two books, This Savage Song is a must-have for fans of Holly Black, Maggie Stiefvater, and Laini Taylor.Kate Harker and August Flynn are the heirs to a divided city—a city where the violence has begun to breed actual monsters. All Kate wants is to be as ruthless as her father, who lets the monsters roam free and makes the humans pay for his protection. All August wants is to be human, as good-hearted as his own father, to play a bigger role in protecting the innocent—but he’s one of the monsters. One who can steal a soul with a simple strain of music. When the chance arises to keep an eye on Kate, who’s just been kicked out of her sixth boarding school and returned home, August jumps at it. But Kate discovers August’s secret, and after a failed assassination attempt the pair must flee for their lives. In This Savage Song, Victoria Schwab creates a gritty, seething metropolis, one worthy of being compared to Gotham and to the four versions of London in her critically acclaimed fantasy for adults, A Darker Shade of Magic. Her heroes will face monsters intent on destroying them from every side—including the monsters within.

"Another great book by VE Schwab! All of her books are very different from each other but the vibes were similar to Vicious a bit. The theme of what makes a monster and that inner turmoil of the character who is seen as a monster wanting to distance himself from that part of himself is big."
"This story was very unique and dark but lacked emotion. I thought Kate was a badass but also watching August mature and discover who he was, very enjoyable. Maybe it's because I didn't get to know the characters well. You always just following them around from place to place. It's difficult to explain like they had great outlines but felt a little hollow inside.

The city and world building was quite nice. A one of a kind plot. I enjoyed the characters even though I couldn't get invested in them. I'm really struggling with this review I liked the story. The writing style was fluid and nice. Everything was explained well. The plot had a good pace. But the treachery was predictable. I think the words were just missing substance."
"⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ this was Such A Good Book !! I had so much fun reading this and I Cannot Wait to read book two… so far, out of every VE Schwab book I’ve read, this one is my favorite. I flew through this one, the entire book is so creative and the concept is so imaginative. I did actually hate Kate at the beginning and I hate when I start to forget to hate the hate-able characters… she did kinda feel like one of those “tough female characters” where the author tried too hard, but I didn’t even care in the last little bit of the book… I definitely recommend to fans of The Darkest Minds or The Chaos Walking Trilogy !"
"Rather than a romance...I feel like the friendship between Kate and August is the thread that ties them...sorry, I haven't read Our Dark Duet yet. I was shocked as I never considered this book to be an almost 5 star⭐ read(it was a bit out of my comfort zone, so...)ended up giving it 4 stars"
