Jenny Han meets CODA in this big-hearted YA debut about first love and Deaf pride at a summer camp.Lilah is stuck in the middle. At least, that’s what having a hearing loss seems like sometimes—when you don’t feel “deaf enough” to identify as Deaf or hearing enough to meet the world’s expectations. But this summer, Lilah is ready for a change. When Lilah becomes a counselor at a summer camp for the deaf and blind, her plan is to brush up on her ASL. Once there, she also finds a community. There are cute British lifeguards who break hearts but not rules, a YouTuber who’s just a bit desperate for clout, the campers Lilah’s responsible for (and overwhelmed by)—and then there’s Isaac, the dreamy Deaf counselor who volunteers to help Lilah with her signing.Romance was never on the agenda, and Lilah’s not positive Isaac likes her that way. But all signs seem to point to love. Unless she’s reading them wrong? One thing’s for sure: Lilah wanted change, and things here . . . they're certainly different than what she’s used to.

"I really liked this book! I am not deaf nor hard of hearing but I have always been interested in ASL and know a bit. this seemed like a great representation for deaf culture, and also shows those of us with hearing the difficulties deaf and HOH go through. the character development is great and I was happy that Lilah found her identity in the deaf community! "
"Omg I love this book. It's probably one of my favorite YA novels. I connected with Lilah and had so many emotions throughout the book. Anger for how people were treating the deaf, sadness that the deaf felt like they didn't belong, etc. this is a great book for representation of deaf culture and shows others what experiences deaf people go through. I never expected to tear up from this book but the story was so beautiful that I was captivated. 100/10 for me! "
"I just finished reading it and I love every character and especially the main guy and it was written by a Deaf author so it’s so informative as well. There was also a scene that really hit hard about how severe miscommunication between the Deaf and Hearing communities can get.
Depending on your reading level and speed it is a really good and quick read! Also I love Issac and Lilah’s relationship sm.
10/10 already wishing I could read it for the first time again!!"

"This book got me to fall in love with reading, it has so much to tell, it has amazing representations of deaf culture, speaks of the struggles and shows the dedication the love interest and main character put into getting to know each other and communicating and connecting with the language barrier that stood between them. It has a bit of miscommunication but it is totally worth your while. "
