"“I’m sure you’d hate to miss everyone’s felicitations.”
David had beaten me in the final round of our sixth-grade spelling bee with that word and now, all these years later, he still tried to drop it into conversation whenever he could.”

I give my felicitations to Rachel Hawkins for this book. I picked up this book after I had read several contemporary novels. I was looking for something a little different maybe something with a little more action, but didn't lack the quirky romance I love. This book did not disappoint. Hawkins has a easy to follow writing style that is filled with witty phrases and action packed scenes. She writes as if the character is speaking to you, creating an experience that makes you feel as if you are with Harper the entire time.
The book opens with Harper, Bee and their boyfriends going in to Homecoming. Harper is a shoe-in for Homecoming Queen because she is head-cheerleader, Head of Student Government, and she's Harper Price. All this considered she has to look perfect. Horrified, Bee notes that Harper's lips are naked. Appalled, Harper runs to the bathroom to fix the catastrophe. While in the bathroom, the janitor runs in a locks the door behind him. Harper notices that he has a massive gash across his body and is dying. He kisses Harper and then just dies right there on the bathroom floor. If that does not sound weird then wait for what happens next. The bathroom door explodes to reveal Harper's history teacher standing there with a massive sword. He calls her a Paladin and then proceeds to attempt to kill her. But then out of the blue, freaky ninja like reflexes kick in and Harper kills him with her stiletto heel.

Harper later learns that she has been gifted with power to protect her charge: David Stark, her arch-nemesis. Only is he really as bad as she's always made him out to be? Who is after David and why? And how will Harper balance her perfect live with her new secret life?

Rebel Belle is a book about figuring out who you really are and who really will be there for you through thick and thin. It's about find and figuring out who you love. It is Harper's journey to distinguish herself from her sister, and make a name for herself. Hawkins accomplishes this along with laugh out loud humor and heart-jerking romance. An over all excellent book and simply a wonderful time.
"
