"This book gave Pretty Little Liars, ESPECIALLY Gillian (she served Alison DiLaurentis vibes). I’d give it a 5 but there were some things I wish they’d dig into, like Gillian’s father and more about what is hinted at the end. AhHH I really did love this one, will be reading more from miss Jodi in the future!"
"This book dragged on for me. It seemed liked there were too many unnecessary characters."

"Beginning was somewhat slow for me. Some details were quite gross. Took me a month to finish this book and when I really like a book I read a lot faster. I just wasn't that connected to it. But the main story was good, and the ending... I'm still baffled by it! I might be oblivious but I didn't see the final twist coming."
"Good book, but left a lot of questions. Like why is there one chapter on Jack's mom, but nothing else about her or they never come back to it? The book insinuates that Addie is raped by Gillian's dad, but doesn't really clearly spell it out. If you watch the movie, the ending is much clearer and I enjoyed the ending of the movie better than the book. In the movie Gillian doesn't continue suffering in silence as the book implies in its ending."
"This book should clearly come with a big red trigger warning.
As a woman, of course I want to believe that no one could possibly lie about sexual assault. That is simply not the case. While false accusations are statistically rare, they do occur. However, that’s still not a reason to default to victim-blaming or disbelief! It is *sooo* much more likely for the law to work in a rapist’s favour.

All-in-all, I really did enjoy this book, though I wouldn’t call it literary masterpiece or any such thing. What it does have is deep intimacy with its characters. You have things to empathize with, and things to scold, in each of the important characters. Whether it be a grievous teenage mistake, the tendency to lie, or a simple failing to do what’s right, there’s always some unsavoury trait/action to be uncovered – that’s just the human condition baby! Exception being Addie… she is an angel.

This book also gives you a bit of whiplash. There is no shortage of character-driven plot twists and “oh god no” moments. I consistently looked forward to turning the page.

And to the author’s credit, Gillian truly does show psychological and behavioural signs of trauma! I especially appreciated the inclusion of dissociation and hyper-sexuality in her psychopathology. That being said, very early on I knew with 100% certainty what had caused these issues.

Plus, the portrayal of Wicca is very cool (especially when it seems to be working!) and I enjoyed the clever Jack/Jill bits. A good read, indeed."
