"Not much to this; a quick background review on Queen Coriane (Cal's mother) and Farley. Jarring that the 1st half is written third person, (yet sort of feels 1st person). Lots of stylistic filler; dont get the feeling she spent much time on this. Enjoyed the second part which introduces Farley, Tristan and Shade far more."

"Queen song-⭐️⭐️⭐️.5
Steel Scars-⭐️⭐️⭐️

I enjoyed both of the short stories(?) in this novella. I’ve put off reading it for a good long wild for reasons that are unknown to even me, but I finally caved when I had a B&N gift card and was already getting King’s Cage to replace my missing copy and had enough to get this book. I wish there would have been more world building, especially in Steel Scars. I would have liked to see more of the Lakelands. In Queen Song, I felt for Corriane in the end but it took me a while to build sympathy to her because, after all, she is still a privileged person in this oppressive society. It wasn’t a particularly profound novella, but it was fun."
