William Shakespeare
In Othello, Shakespeare creates powerful drama from a marriage between the exotic Moor Othello and the Venetian lady Desdemona that begins with elopement and mutual devotion and ends with jealous rage and death. Shakespeare builds many differences into his hero and heroine, including race, age, and cultural background. Yet most readers and audiences believe the couple’s strong love would overcome these differences were it not for Iago, who sets out to destroy Othello. Iago’s false insinuations about Desdemona’s infidelity draw Othello into his schemes, and Desdemona is subjected to Othello’s horrifying verbal and physical assaults. "One of the first Shakespeare plays I've read in a while, and it was certainly one of the best! Iago is one of my favorite villains of all time and this tragedy is such a captivating tell of jealousy and human emotion! If you hate Shakespeare read this play. I guarantee it will change your life"
"This is a recording of a performance done at the Donmar Warehouse Theatre in London 2008 by the National Theatre. The title role of Othello is played Chiwetel Ejofor and the role Iago is played by Ewan McGregor with Kelly Reilly as Desdamona and Tom Hiddleston as Cassio.

The play is brilliant and heart-wrenching, and made me like Othello, which is something I couldn't get from just from reading the play."

"I haven't read too much Shakespeare in my time, but he never does disappoint. Although, I am glad my copy had pages explaining each scene in case I got confused because of the language. Othello was easily a 4/5 star read and I can't wait to read more Shakespeare this year!"

"This is probably my favorite of Shakespeare's tragedies due to the cunningness of Iago. What a fantastic villain! I'm seeing this performed next week and wanted to revisit it prior, since the last time I read this play was in high school English class. I definitely have a greater appreciation for the story than I did then and I'm looking forward to seeing "Othello" as Shakespeare always intended: performed."
