NATIONAL BESTSELLERNEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER"None of this is real and all of it is true." --Jim CarreyFrom movie star Jim Carrey and novelist Dana Vachon, a fearless and semi-autobiographical novel about acting, Hollywood, agents, celebrity, privilege, friendship, romance, addiction to relevance, fear of personal erasure, destruction of persona, our "one big soul," Canada, and apocalypses within and without.Meet Jim Carrey. Sure, he's an insanely successful and beloved movie star drowning in wealth and privilege--but he's also lonely. Maybe past his prime. Maybe even...getting fat? He's tried diets, gurus, and cuddlin' with his military-grade Israeli guard dogs, but nothing seems to lift the cloud of emptiness and ennui. Even the advice of his best friend, actor and dinosaur skull collector, Nicolas Cage, isn't enough to pull Carrey out of his slump. Then Jim meets Georgie: ruthless ingénue, love of his life. And thanks to auteur screenwriter Charlie Kaufman, he has a role to play in a boundary-pushing new picture that may help him uncover a whole new side to himself. Finally, his Oscar vehicle! Things are looking up. But the universe has other plans.Memoirs and Misinformation is a fearless semi-autobiographical novel, a deconstruction of persona. In it, Jim Carrey and Dana Vachon have fashioned a story about acting, Hollywood, agents, celebrity, privilege, friendship, romance, addiction to relevance, fear of personal erasure, our "one big soul," Canada, and a cataclysmic ending of the world--apocalypses within and without.

"So I'm probably in the minority here but I loved this book! I mean "I Like-it-a-lot". This book delves into the semi-autobiographical life of Jim Carrey and pushes the boundaries on absurd. I was laughing more than I usually do while reading books, but I also have a soft spot for dark humor and satire. Speaking of satire this book is positively drenched in it. It seems like everything that happens in the book is a comment on how ridiculous our society has become in just the short time Jim Carrey has been alive, but not in the conservative make things great kind of way. He takes a deep dive into the nature of reality and deconstructs himself while still remaining the Jim Carrey we all know and love. He fictitiously renders a world with a full cast of his fellow actors and directors saying and doing things they probably would never say or do in real life (the exception being Nicolas Cage.) I feel the truthful parts of the novel are the parts where he admits to being flawed, depressed and done with the celebrity culture while also admitting that he still craves that spotlight that shone so brightly on him in 90's. I will say if you didn't like his serious work or the TV show kidding you might not be on the level of this book. This is not a memoir or slapstick, but it is funny and truthful. I would love to see this book as a movie but I know that it would be impossible to get anyone other than Nicolas Cage to sign on to play their parts... but it would be hilarious if they did. Special shout out to the Nicolas Cage and Kelsey Grammer contained in this book, you both were perfect."
