"(SPOILER ALERT) Literally couldn’t put it down. Went into the story completely blind and I was blown away. The plot twist of Maven betraying Mare and Cal and killing the king really shocked me. I will say that, although I didn’t expect his deceit, I did have a weird feeling about his and Mare’s relationship for most of the book. It didn’t feel natural to me. I was Team Cal all the way. Side Note: Mare has serious game. She had 3 men pining for her and no matter what she did, they all followed her like damn puppy dogs"
"Enjoyed the plot and characters. One of the stronger ya Fantasy series in the last 5 years imo."

"Boring. Main character was unlikeable and uninteresting. Plot was bland. Overall was yawning the whole way through."

"I expected a lot from this book, and while it was not everything I wanted it to be, it definitely got better. Unfortunately, there was no chemistry between the characters in my opinion. And I could tell the plot was trying to be a big thing but I don’t think it was executed greatly. Now, it got so much better at the end. Throughout the story, I didn’t really understand what was going on at all, and I honestly couldn’t imagine what was happening either, but the last 50 or so pages were SO GOOD. OH MY GOSH. So much happened that I just- insane. The whole book was fast-paced but something about that ending. That being said, I will be continuing the rest of the series. As much as this book wasn’t my favorite until the end, I couldn’t put it down, either. Being left where it was makes me want to read the next book so bad, too."

"The first half was pretty alright, kept me on my toes, but the second half was pretty boring…until the end.The ending was(predictable to me) but also very shocking and interesting. 🤨 Although Mare(the main character) wasn’t all that interesting to me,she wasn’t that bad. But the world building was unique and interesting, the family dynamics were relatable and the love interest was great 😊 "
