"Hi, my name is Olivia and I’m hopeless Sydrian trash. :’) While all of the books in this series are masterpieces, this one is the best yet! It’s fast-paced and emotional from cover to cover, with a lot more emphasis on magic and questioning loyalty and beliefs. It’s funny and romantic, fairly stressful, but such a fun time!! Also, Ms. T is an icon and I love Hopper!! I wish I had one of him for myself!!! 💙💙💙"
"★★★★½ -- Quick reaction: It's so good to see Sydney coming into her own. Watching her develop into someone who questions what's occurring around her, who doesn't blindly follow, is great. She's really becoming a woman of action, and I love that. It's also good to see her making some choices for her sake instead of others'. Adrian, as always, was fabulous. I loved him in the Vampire Academy series, and each book featuring him has made me love him even more. The end of this one is a stunner. I can't wait for The Fiery Heart, and I'm thankful the wait is not a long one!"

"Of course, as with the rest of this series, there has been a lot of hype over this book. While it wasn't horrible, I still felt a little let down. We got some great chemistry between Adrian and Sydney but it seemed the promotion of "Who is Marcus Finch" seemed like a huge let down. I was expecting some mysterious guy who we wouldn't really get to know in this book. Maybe the next. Instead, it seems all those cards are laid out fairly quick. However, I was really intrigued with the idea of the indigo spell (which you will learn about after reading the book). I'm hoping this part plays out for at least the next book. While the whole mystery of Marcus Finch was a flop, I am interested to see how his involvement plays out in future books.

Who wants to live forever? Well, Veronica, obviously. There is someone out there stealing young girls looks and just maybe some of their raw, undeveloped magical ability. This was interesting from the investigative stand point. What spells can one use against a powerful witch? Sydney has a lot of soul searching to do about her magic usage and how that just might save her life. She is still struggling with using magic, although not as much as she has been. It seems now the minor stuff has stopped bothering her, but now we see these bigger spells and even defensive and offensive spells. I'm pretty sure that this portion is going to start to change up this series, but I think in a very good way.

What I loved most about this book was Adrian. Yup. Might as well just say it. Adrian is what keeps me reading. Sydney isn't so bad for a heroine, but sometimes her second guessing or her biased alchemist background gets tedious and annoying at times. However, none of that seems to really phase Adrian. Adrian is the same as he used to be. Finally out of the funk he has been in, we see the Adrian a lot of fan have fallen in love with. And it is a great sight to behold. Flirty bad boy with no regard to silly things like social standards or appropriate behavior. Crossing lines that only Adrian can cross, he makes for some good fun while Sydney is trying to keep her distance.

One thing I am grateful for is that there is no love triangle. I'm a little over it when it comes to paranormal or even romances. In VA, while it wasn't tedious, it still was hard when Rose still had her heart set on Dimitri, but it was hard to watch Adrian get his heart stomped on. I'm really pulling for him in this one. I'm hoping that he does win the girl. I'm hoping he gets his "Flame in the Dark" like he deserves."
