New York Times bestselling author Karen Rose returns with a new thriller in her chilling Cincinnati series. Michael Rowland is not your typical teenager. Deaf from birth, he’s always looked out for his five-year-old brother, Joshua. When his stepfather comes after Joshua, Michael takes the child and runs. He’s determined to protect his brother at all costs, even if that means making himself vulnerable to a danger he can’t hear coming. And the danger intensifies when Michael witnesses a stranger kill his stepfather.Desperate and afraid, the boys have nowhere else to go but to Joshua’s soccer coach, journalist and ex-Army ranger Diesel Kennedy. When Diesel sees that Michael is injured, he takes them to see Dr. Dani Novak—not only because she’s fluent in American Sign Language, but because he’s drawn to her and everything she stands for. She never refuses Diesel’s requests—because she, too, feels their connection—but she resists him for reasons she doesn’t want to confess. When Dani and Diesel learn that Michael saw the face of his stepfather’s killer, they fear for his safety. But they quickly discover that it’s even worse than they feared: They may have a serial killer on their hands—and all signs point to Michael as the next target. “[A] pedal-to-the-metal thriller with plenty of developed charactersand converging mysteries. . . . To call this book a page-turneris an understatement.”—USA Today on Say You're Sorry“Rose writes blistering, high-octane suspense that never lets up.”—New York Times bestselling author Karen Robards

"I have never read any of Gena Showalter's novels, but I always find that short stories are a good place to start in helping me determine if I would like the longer works or not. Into the Dark contained three shorts, "The Darkest Fire", "The Amazon's Curse", and "The Darkest Prison". Of the three, I liked "The Amazon's Curse" the best, which was the one that was not a Lords of the Underworld story. What I did enjoy more than the stories, was the bonus material which comprised almost half the book. Although I have not read the series and do not know the characters, the "interviews" with the Lords of the Underworld were great - William completely cracked me up."
"Hello Darkness, My Old Friend.

My heart hurts and I sobbed like a baby. Into The Dark is dark, beautiful, and poetic.

“Your screams,” he murmurs as I come down from the high. “Those ******* screams are spiritual, Lyra.”

Into The Dark is a standalone, dual POV. Dark Romance. As with any dark romance, I always say read your trigger warnings. There are several. Is this my darkest book? No, but could be someone else’s and darkness is subjective to the reader. On my dark scale, it teeters on black. And there are never any guarantees of a happily ever after in dark romance.

Him is a serial killer with his demon by his side hunting his next victim which is always a woman. When he sees a woman named Lyra he is highly intrigued by her, Him needs to know more about her.

Lyra is not the normal woman he seeks out. Him is a completely unhinged sociopath who has always lived an isolated life. Lyra has an obsessive personality, always just looking for someone to be obsessed with her as much as she is obsessed with them. I wasn’t sure how I was going to feel about her; In the end, I was in love with her character.

Both MC completely flawed with traumatic pasts and mental illness. These two belonged together. Each one understands the other and with no judgment. As much as I love both characters, Him’s was something else, to get into his head as to why and talking to his demon.

The author is highly talented, and you can tell she wrote this book with her heart and soul. She went into a very deep, dark place with this one. That ending to me was everything and touched my soul. I will remember this book for years to come.

Into The Dark is what I look for in any dark romance. Pushed my boundaries and delivered a phenomenal book. I highly recommend it to all my dark romance readers.

Thank you to Talknerdy2me and Dana Isaly for this arc, in exchange for my honest review. I am deeply honored."
