'I utterly believed in the residents of Beartown, and felt ripped apart by the events in the book' JOJO MOYESWHAT DOES IT TAKE TO STAND TOGETHER? ‘It’s often said that winners write history, but there are no winners here’This is a small story about big questions. It's a story about family, community, life. It starts with a storm - and a death. But how does it end? Two years have passed since the events that no one wants to think about. Everyone has tried to move on, but there’s something about this place that prevents it. The residents continue to grapple with life’s big questions: What is a family? What is a community? And what, if anything, are we willing to sacrifice in order to protect them? As the locals of Beartown struggle to overcome the past, great change is on the horizon. Someone is coming home after a long time away. Someone will be laid to rest. Someone will fall in love, someone will try to fix their marriage, and someone will do anything to save their children. Someone will submit to hate, someone will fight, and someone will grab a gun and walk towards the ice rink. So what are the residents of Beartown willing to sacrifice for their home? Everything.PRAISE FOR THE BEARTOWN BOOKS: 'This is a stunning read that plunges you into another world. Backman writes with incredible sensitivity and insight. Every one of the characters is real and multi-faceted, having you breathlessly turning the pages, following their fears and hopes, fretting for their futures. This is storytelling at its best: Emotional, vivid, wise and utterly brilliant' HAZEL PRIOR 'Surrounded by impenetrable forests, Beartown recreates the stifling atmosphere of a dying community. A mature, compassionate novel' SUNDAY TIMES 'Backman can tickle the funny bone and tug on the heart strings when he needs to, and is a clever enough storyteller to not overindulge in either' INDEPENDENT 'As popular Swedish exports go, Backman is up there with ABBA and Stieg Larsson' THE NEW YORK TIMES BOOK REVIEW 'Backman is a masterful writer' KIRKUS REVIEW

"The third in the Beartown series, and the exception to my rule that sequels are never as good as the first in a series. I’d say it was a satisfying conclusion, but I’m pretty sad it’s the last one. And part of me is still rebelling against some parts of the ending.
If I were an author, I’d want to be as good as Frederik Backman. His ability to tell stories about people, the good and bad, with so much empathy is uncanny. It’s a story about hockey, and life.
The Beartown series…..❤️💔😢…..IYKYK"
"Wow! I just finished this book, the last in the Beartown trilogy. What a rollercoaster of emotion! It covers it all! Please don't read if you hate to cry though. I hate to cry but I love the stories so much that the annoyance of the tears is worth it.
I'm a huge Backman fan and he sure doesn't disappoint with these books. His stories are always filled with life lessons and quirky characters. "
"I started this one last year, then put it aside until a couple weeks ago. I’m glad to be done with this series. I wish I could say I enjoyed this book, but it was filled with much of the same repetition and heavy foreshadowing as the previous two books, that I ended up skimming over a good deal of it. I am happy with the ending for most of the characters, though."
"3 stars rounded down to 2.5 the first half was great, then just got bogged down sooo much. Also reading about all the hatred and violence was exhausting. I skimmed around the middle cuz I just couldn't do it. Read the final few chapters and just feel sad from all the hatred. I loved all his other books. This is a first "bomb" for this author."

"Wow!! Such a long book, but I never wanted to stop listening to it. Narration was fantastic, the book was just amazing, the characters are just so amazing in they way they are portrayed! Some of my favorite quotes from the book below!!

“Our children never warn us that they’re thinking of growing up, one day they’re just too big to want to hold our hand, it’s just as well we never know when the last time is going to be or we’d never let go.”

“He is the sort of person who runs toward a fire. No hesitation, no questions, he just runs. People like that are rare, but you know who they are when you see them.”

“This hurts too much to touch with words”

So well written!!"
