From the New York Times bestselling author of The Nature of Witches comes an immersive, enemies-to-lovers contemporary fantasy standalone. After a night of magic turns deadly, Iris Gray vows to never let another person learn she's a witch. It doesn't matter that the Witches' Council found her innocent or that her magic was once viewed as a marvel--that night on the lake changed everything. Now settled in Washington, Iris hides who she really is and vents her frustrations by writing curses she never intends to cast. And while she loves working at the wildlife refuge she runs with her mother, she loathes Pike Alder, the witch-hating aspiring ornithologist who interns with them. When Pike makes a particularly hurtful comment, Iris concocts a cruel curse for him. But just as she's about to dispel it, an owl swoops down and steals the curse before flying far away from the refuge. The owl is a powerful amplifier, and if it dies, Iris's dark spell will be unleashed not only on Pike but on everyone in the region. Forced to work together, Iris and Pike trek through the wilderness in search of the bird that could cost Pike his life. But Pike doesn't know the truth, and as more dangers arise in the woods, Iris must decide how far she's willing to go to keep her secrets safe.

"*WARNING THIS REVIEW WILL CONTAIN SPOILERS* Love it!! So this wasn't the level of her debut novel "The Nature of Witches" but its a very close second in my opinion. I didn't feel as pulled in like her first book, but the opening lines got me! I really enjoyed the fact that not only was this about witches and the use of their magic but it also brought in wild animals and I loved that. The descriptions of the forest and the way the air felt and everything, it made me feel like I was in the forest and woods with her, you know? I do have to say that the romance between Pike and Iris kind of felt "forced" and rushed but somehow felt genuine. I honestly don't know how to explain it correctly... But I did love their banter and the fact that they had a "one bed trope" was hilarious😆. The owl knew exactly what was going to happen literally since the beginning with the feather🪶(I thought Iris would have connected the dots but I guess not) and how it was going to play out and I honestly teared up when it passed away🥺😭🦉. R.I.P MacGuffin R.I.P. I liked how Rachel had added in the fact that Iris deals with anxiety and such, and she's dealt with it a certain way but now found a new way that helps too. This was a great read and honestly Rachel Griffin is an automatic buy for me, she can count on me and my bank account😅💳🏦"
"It was definitely your classic enemies to lovers with all that normally comes with it (forced to spend a long time together, sleeping arrangements get messed up, etc). Overall was a nice story with a happy ending. The witch part of the story was a little different than most witch stories, the author had a different take on the magic and way that witches are perceived by the world. It was also a very quick read. "
"It was ok to me !!! It was hard to focus but overall like it !!"

"I've read Rachel Griffin's books in a really odd order - her debut came first, and was a book cover buy. I bought this one as soon as it came out, and then received the advanced reader's copy of Bring Me Your Midnight, and read that, loved it, and then decided to read this one. God I wish I had read this way sooner. I mean come on, "enemies" to lovers forced proximity? Ok, honestly I don't even know if I like those tropes but I definitely loved the execution in this novel. I thought about writing this review on my way from my parents back to my own apartment, and trying to figure out if there's any flaws that stood out to me. At first I landed on how quickly Pike accepted his "fate." But that wasn't true, he rationalized his decision, and they didn't have any other options, and thankfully it ended well. I'm really happy with how this book unfolded, and enjoyed every minute. I cannot wait for whatever she comes out with after Bring Me Your Midnight!"
"Unfortunately, I was rather disappointed with this book. The character of Pike was humorous enough, but the romance felt very forced, and the pacing was off…several days of just hiking and camping, took much longer than it needed to. Was entertaining enough to at least finish the story, but would definitely not recommend."

"Rachel Griffin’s The Nature of Witches turned out to be one of my favourite books, so when I heard there was going to be a second one I was beyond excited. Wild is the Witch is about Iris who binds a curse on an owl without meaning to. In a quest to save the owl, she and her colleague Pike go into what was supposed to be a two day backpacking trip in an old forest.

The bar was high for this book and it delivered. I was afraid it would not be as good as the first novel, but Wild is the Witch brought tears to my eyes (for an owl!). The book had lgbt representation, well developed characters and a super cute ennemis to lovers story.

I would absolutely recommend this book. It just proves that any Rachel Griffin’s book is an insta buy. 5/5"
