The main character of this novel, Margaret MacNeil, is an absolutely stunning character. Currie makes it very clear throughout this novel the importance of family to Margaret. Although,living in the Reserve Mines, where you have no choice but to make a living as a miner, presents a difficult environment for Margaret to cope with.
