"I picked up a used copy of this online after reading about Rainbow six (which I read going on 17 years ago). The premise of John Clark, along with the upcoming movie had me read this as a palette cleanser between sci fi/Fantasy books. Tom Clancy is a great writer in that he is entertaining. The book flows as a great action movie, and he manages to weave a lot of very absurd situations all into one tight story.

One thing Tom Clancy is pretty weak at writing is women. It's very obvious they are all objectified in his books, and some of the character descriptions really wouldn't pass a publisher's tests these days (I would hope not). He doesn't glorify war QUITE as much as I remember, but I do prefer when authors don't try and make war out to be a good thing (especially the Vietnam war...).

I'm definitely going to re-read Rainbow six after this for an entertainment factor."
"You hear the phrase "the book is better than the movie" a lot, and in this instance I believe it to be true. The movie lacked in a lot of areas while the book didn't. The development of John Kelly's character was more fleshed out in the book. If you saw the movie, I recommend the book; they're actually pretty different from each other too."
"Loved Michael B. Jordan in this one—and Jamie Bell as a shady CIA insider!"
