Thomas King
A #1 Indie bestseller and a Canadian bestseller for 22 weeks, the brilliant latest novel from one of Canada’s foremost authorsInspired by a handful of postcards sent nearly a hundred years ago, Bird and Mimi attempt to trace long-lost uncle Leroy and the family medicine bundle he took with him to Europe.“I’m sweaty and sticky. My ears are still popping from the descent into Vaclav Havel. My sinuses ache. My stomach is upset. My mouth is a sewer. I roll over and bury my face in a pillow. Mimi snuggles down beside me with no regard for my distress.‘My god,’ she whispers, ‘can it get any better?’” By turns witty, sly and poignant, this is the unforgettable tale of one couple’s holiday in Europe, where their wanderings through its famous capitals reveal a complicated history, both personal and political.

"First book by Thomas King I've read, look forward to reading more. Has a dry wit, with some laugh out loud one liners. We've all been one half of this couple at one time or another. One wants to imerse themselves in the culture and flavours of the area, the other is bah-humbug cynical and would rather have just stayed home. Would be a great book for a book club as there are many areas, themes and backstories on the go. "
"I love Mimi and Bird, these characters felt like real people to me. Love the dialog between them and the other characters in the book. Wonderful story, rich with beautiful imagery, and captivating characters. Thomas King had me hooked right to the end, longing for more. I wish I could meet Mimi and Bird in real life! Great book!"
