Jane Austen
Emma, by Jane Austen, is a novel about youthful hubris and romantic misunderstandings. It is set in the fictional country village of Highbury and the surrounding estates of Hartfield, Randalls, and Donwell Abbey and involves the relationships among people from a small number of families. The novel was first published in December 1815, with its title page listing a publication date of 1816. As in her other novels, Austen explores the concerns and difficulties of genteel women living in Georgian-Regency England. Emma is a comedy of manners, and depicts issues of marriage, sex, age, and social status. Before she began the novel, Austen wrote, "I am going to take a heroine whom no one but myself will much like." In the first sentence, she introduces the title character as "Emma Woodhouse, handsome, clever, and rich, with a comfortable home and a happy disposition... and had lived nearly twenty-one years in the world with very little to distress or vex her." Emma is spoiled, headstrong, and self-satisfied; she greatly overestimates her own matchmaking abilities; she is blind to the dangers of meddling in other people's lives; and her imagination and perceptions often lead her astray.Emma, written after Austen's move to Chawton, was her last novel to be published during her lifetime, while Persuasion, the last novel Austen wrote, was published posthumously.

"My First Jane Austin book and I LOVED it! I would recommend it to those that enjoy a rom-com but also really appreciate a classic. (My almost adult daughters would hate this book, it isn’t for everyone. )
I wish I could have been more like Emma when I was 21. She was witty, well spoken, knew her mind, held her ground, made mistakes, felt remorse, and took ownership of wrongdoings. She loved and felt fiercely and I was happy to go on her adventures with her.
Almost all of the characters remind me of someone in my life and I can see some of these conversations happening at my grandparents house out in the country when I would visit. It was such a treat to be taken back in time and see real human emotions (albeit emotions among the privileged upper class society.) lol"
"Out of all the Jane Austen books I've read so far Emma was my least favorite. As a character I can say she was really well written and interesting but for my personality she was very annoying to read about and at times the story would be really slow paced 😅. However, this was one of my favorite love interest in any of her books and the parts of the book that I enjoyed I really enjoyed because you almost earn them (lol if that makes sense)."
