When fourteen-year-old Padmé Naberrie wins the election for Queen of Naboo, she adopts the name Amidala and leaves her family to the rule from the royal palace. To keep her safe and secure, she'll need a group of skilled handmaidens who can be her assistants, confidantes, defenders, and decoys. Each girl is selected for her particular talents, but it will be up to Padmé to unite them as a group. When Naboo is invaded by forces of the Trade Federation, Queen Amidala and her handmaidens will face the greatest test--of themselves, and of each other.

"
This is one of the better star wars books I've read. I enjoyed seeing into Padmé's process and especially the connection between her and her handmaidens. I loved how all their skill sets came into play throughout the book and how they worked together for the greater good. The girls were the best part and should have been the sole focus in my opinion. The fluff bits detailing what was going on with other characters was obvious to anyone who has seen The Phantom Menace so it felt unnecessary, but at least they didn't spend long on those parts. Overall a good book!"
"This book is a direct prequel to the events and events during episode 1 the phantom menace from the queen Amidala and her hand Maidens. It’s cool to see how the hand maidens were chosen and their unique skills. Very slow book. But it was good to get some context before the events of the phantom menace."
"It’s a well written backstory of Queen Amidala when she was first elected. This is one of the best SW books I read in a while!"
