Moon has spent his life hiding what he is — a shape-shifter able to transform himself into a winged creature of flight. An orphan with only vague memories of his own kind, Moon tries to fit in among the tribes of his river valley, with mixed success. Just as Moon is once again cast out by his adopted tribe, he discovers a shape-shifter like himself... someone who seems to know exactly what he is, who promises that Moon will be welcomed into his community. What this stranger doesn't tell Moon is that his presence will tip the balance of power... that his extraordinary lineage is crucial to the colony's survival... and that his people face extinction at the hands of the dreaded Fell! Now Moon must overcome a lifetime of conditioning in order to save and himself... and his newfound kin.

"I was disappointed in this book. I love her Murderbot Diaries, but this novel is not those. Lack of character development, almost no down time between action sequences, this book has alot of potential that she just doesn't develop. I can't remember what it's classed as, but this reads like juvenile fiction."
"Ok this is more of a 3.5 than a 3 because I enjoyed it but there where parts that really needed polishing ie Moon landed, Moon landing etc. That one was a conspicuous repeater because it made it sound like we were reading about NASA.
I don't like the protagonist. He seems like a rough sketch of Murderbot but in Murderbot, there is an in-universe reason for him to be so basic with a vacuum of a personality, no real ambitions or loyalties except kinda to his not girlfriend.
I heard this is MBW's first novel and this is excellent for a first shot imo. It was a really nice adventure and I've moved right along to the second book.
I save my 5s to be on par with the best books I've ever read. I give 4s to books I'm certain I will want to read again and the toughest rating is 3 because it means I liked it usually but can't give it the 4 another book from this author got."
