Michelle Knight
The #1 New York Times Bestseller and inspirational memoir by Michelle Knight, whose survival story gripped the world and continues to inspire and offer hope.Michelle was a young single mother when she was kidnapped by a local school bus driver named Ariel Castro. For more than a decade afterward, she endured unimaginable torture at the hand of her abductor. In 2003 Amanda Berry joined her in captivity, followed by Gina DeJesus in 2004. Their escape on May 6, 2013, made headlines around the world. Barely out of her own tumultuous childhood, Michelle was estranged from her family and fighting for custody of her young son when she disappeared. Local police believed she had run away, so they removed her from the missing persons lists fifteen months after she vanished. Castro tormented her with these facts, reminding her that no one was looking for her, that the outside world had forgotten her. But Michelle would not be broken. In Finding Me, Michelle will reveal the heartbreaking details of her story, including the thoughts and prayers that helped her find courage to endure her unimaginable circumstances and now build a life worth living. By sharing both her past and her efforts to create a future, Michelle becomes a voice for the voiceless and a powerful symbol of hope for the thousands of children and young adults who go missing every year.

"An incredibly sad and inspiring journey of strength. I don’t know how Michelle has done it, but she has survived more than I could imagine any human. The strength that she possesses for what she has been through is more than I can express. I hope that she continues to thrive in her life. "
"Wow, just Wow!!!
I remember watching the news and seeing the coverage of the miraculous escape of these three women from that house in Cleveland. I remember thinking how crazy the whole story was. How can someone manage to keep three women locked away for a decade and no one notice. It just seems insane.
This is Michelle Knight's autobiography telling her story of her life leading up to the kidnapping and everything that happened to her during the eleven years she was held captive and chained. Eleven years, it's so hard to even wrap my mind around that.
Michelle was the first to be taken by Ariel Castro and the abuse she describes in this book is quite difficult to read at times. This is with Michelle toning it down and not going into brutal detail. What she does describe is just horrific. Amanda was taken the following year and the year after that Gina was taken too.
I definitely would like to read a book from Amanda's view point after reading this as she seems to have been kept separate from the other girls quite a bit and had a bit of a different relationship with Ariel as he seemed to consider her his wife in his little make believe land. Amanda was the only one who was allowed to give birth when she became pregnant. Michelle suffered through five horrible miscarriages due to severe beatings and abuse at his hand.
Interesting book for anyone who enjoys True Crime. Would not recommend to anyone who is emotionally triggered by rape or violence against women. Includes some graphic content."
