But when his father and three half brothers in line for the throne are killed in an "accident," he has no choice but to take his place as the only surviving rightful heir.Entirely unschooled in the art of court politics, he has no friends, no advisors, and the sure knowledge that whoever assassinated his father and brothers could make an attempt on his life at any moment.Surrounded by sycophants eager to curry favor with the naïve new emperor, and overwhelmed by the burdens of his new life, he can trust nobody. Amid the swirl of plots to depose him, offers of arranged marriages, and the specter of the unknown conspirators who lurk in the shadows, he must quickly adjust to life as the Goblin Emperor. All the while, he is alone, and trying to find even a single friend . . . and hoping for the possibility of romance, yet also vigilant against the unseen enemies that threaten him, lest he lose his throne–or his life.At the Publisher's request, this title is being sold without Digital Rights Management Software (DRM) applied.

"This was such a great book! I finished it in 2 days because I couldn’t put it down. Maia is the nicest goblin you’d ever want to meet."

"An unsure hero you can really root for. The court politics ( usually just window dressing in a lot of fantasies) and intrigues are well developed and believable. "

"Oh, pure fun but with the time and complexity to make it a really satisfying fantasy to sink your teeth into. I know we love a “morally grey” or “unlikable” protagonist but I really love Maia and I like that he’s trying to be kind in extenuating circumstances. I like that this is a subversion of the expected arc of a character being inserted into deep political intrigue and becoming cunning and lowkey corrupt."
"Not enough people know about this book. I immediately fell in love with the protagonist and wanted to give him a hug lol. Fantastic subtle world building without drowning in it. Protagonist trying to figure out how to stay true to himself while in a den of political intrigue. Fantastic magic and fantasy characters with a tiny bit of steampunk technology thrown in for spice. Made me cry, but like in a good way. Someone hug this small boy. Fantastic stand alone book 10/10 "
"A really good political intrigue stand alone. All plots and schemes wrapped up in the end. But also makes you wistful that it is over."

"I adore this book! I've read it at least 5 times. I love the world building. I love the decency and courage of the main character. I love that it's a treaty on overcoming racial prejudice. I love that male/female roles are turned on their head a bit. I love that a gay character is featured (and goes on to have his own new two book). I would love to see this as a live action or animated movie. I hope someday she writes a sequel for Maya.#fantasy #hopepunk "
"Reading this felt like a chore. Normally, I would be all in for a politics heavy story, but that’s all there is here. There’s no mystery, no action, no big reveal, no real underlying plot besides the main character navigating a new world. There’s hardly any world-building or defining characteristics other than the fact that he’s half goblin?"
