But no one will admit that his death wasn't an accident—or that Mahit might be next to die, during a time of political instability in the highest echelons of the imperial court. Now, Mahit must discover who is behind the murder, rescue herself, and save her Station from Teixcalaan's unceasing expansion—all while navigating an alien culture that is all too seductive, engaging in intrigues of her own, and hiding a deadly technological secret—one that might spell the end of her Station and her way of life—or rescue it from annihilation.Arkady Martine's debut novel A Memory Called Empire is a fascinating space opera and an interstellar mystery adventure."The most thrilling ride ever. "My ongoing struggle to find well written and excellently executed character-bases sci-fi makes the gems I do run across that much more lovely, and this one is no exception. I won't say I loved the politics, cause I didn't, but the characters are all incredible and brilliantly flawed and human even as many of them are actually intuitively alien, and I will happily accept the politics if it means I can get more unwilling politicians like these."
""A Memory Called Empire" is an intriguing and thought-provoking science fiction novel that earns a solid four stars from me. Arkady Martine's world-building and intricate political intrigue are impressive, creating a complex and immersive future universe. The story's protagonist, Mahit Dzmare, is a compelling character, and the exploration of identity and cultural conflict is thoughtfully done. While the pacing is occasionally slow, the richly detailed setting and the exploration of power dynamics more than make up for it. If you enjoy cerebral and political science fiction, this book is well worth a read."

The writing style has been described as clunky by some readers, but the book has been lauded for its compelling narrative and world-building. Overall, the novel offers a captivating and immersive experience, making it a must-read for fans of the science fiction genre."
"Absolutely thrilling! Action-packed political drama meets sci-fi in a way that keeps you on the edge of you seat. Each character has agency and fully realized motivations. The author impresses the beauty of poetry and rhetoric upon the reader, however unfamiliar they may be. Already one of my favorites for the year! #science_fiction #drama #scifi #scifi_and_fantasy #politics "
"There was so much to love in this book! It had murder, beautiful world building, and fascinating political intrigue. Really, it was just shy of perfect!

I thoroughly enjoyed the characters and the twists and turns in the story, but the real appeal to me the cultural elements of the civilization. The author was clearly well versed in what she was writing, and it came out in the best way. Plus the poetry elements and general writing style were amazing. I tried to savor as much as I could, even though I was dying to know what happened!

I read this for a book club, and we had the most wonderful discussions regarding the story elements and setting. I highly, highly recommend, and it’s definitely the kind of book that deserves to be discussed at length!"
