“Eloisa James’s writing is absolutely exquisite.”—New York Times bestselling author Teresa Medeiros “Nothing gets me to a bookstore faster than a new novel by Eloisa James.”—New York Times bestselling author Julia Quinn A wonderful spin on a much-beloved fairy tale, Eloisa James’s When Beauty Tamed the Beast is heart-soaring and fun historical romance at its finest. No wonder People magazine raves about her books, saying, “Romance writing does not get much better than this.” Eloisa’s delightful take on Beauty and the Beast unfolds in Regency England, where a beastly, bad-tempered Earl matches wits with a brazen beauty who has vowed to make the handsome grump fall in love with her in two short weeks.

"3.5 stars out of 5

Let me just start out with saying, me giving a 3.5 stars means to me that I liked the book more than I hated it. I thought the beginning took a little bit to get into, but as I got about a quarter of the way in, it picked up pace. Then by the middle, it slowed down quite a lot. The last quarter was by far the quickest and most enjoyable part of the book. When Linnet is discovered with scarlet fever by Piers, it felt like an entirely different book. I liked the history and progression of the disease, since I'm into the medical treatments of years gone past and what we have today.

The issue I have is mostly due to some characters I wish being more developed or I could have seen more of. We never hear more about Linnet's father and aunt after the beginning of the story, even though I would think they would be more concerned that they haven't seen or heard from her in probably weeks. Also what happened with the charming little boy named Gavan? Could we have followed up with his character at the end at least?!

I will say though that the central relationship between the two main characters Linnet and Piers was my favourite part of the book. I quite liked the Dr. House (Fox tv series with Hugh Laurie) elements to Piers' character and Linnet is more than just her stunningly beautiful outer appearance. The love scenes in the book were pretty good. So far I haven't hated a book I have read from Eloisa James, having read a couple of hers that I can't remember off the top of my head.

Overall I would recommend people who are interested in historical medicine and a good old-fashioned "Beauty and the Beast" retelling check this book out."
