Sixteen-year-old Pea looks normal, but she has a secret: she has Avoidant/Restrictive Food Intake Disorder, which means she can’t eat very much because nutritious foods frighten her. Having ARFID is like having a monster inside of her, one that dictates what she can eat, what she does and who she socializes with. This monster is growing and controlling more than just her food issues – it’s causing anxiety, depression and thoughts that she doesn’t want to have. When she falls crazy-mad in love with Ben, she hides her disorder from him, pretending that she’s fine. At first, everything really does feel like it’s getting better with him around, so she stops taking her anxiety and depression medication. And that's when the monster really takes over her life. Just as everything seems lost and hopeless, Pea finds in her family, best friend, and Ben the support and strength that she needs to learn that her eating disorder doesn’t have to control her. SAD PERFECT is a heart-wrenching debut from Stephanie Elliot.A Margaret Ferguson Book

"omg i have so much to say. this was beautiful. i loved the perspective of the book so much. love how they didn’t include her actual name because it’s supposed to be the readers name. i got a lot of girl interrupted vibes. the only weird part was how it’s kinda about her daughter and she’s like yeah let’s make them screw in the back of the car. but other than that it’s was perfect. very simple read that will get you in the feels. love ben sm. "Hmm, I rated this low just because it kind of felt like a middle school book. I enjoyed the description of ARFID and anxiety disorder. But the romantic parts were very PG and just kind of felt like a kids book? <br/>Other than that it’s good"

"Idk, I'd give it 3.5/5 as a book, but a good rating on the representation? I have ARFID so I wanted to read this, and I'm glad I did, but there were a lot of parts that were light to read and made it just "alright" in my opinion.
Still, I am very grateful for some representation and to read a book that had a main character think so much that I've thought before regarding food. I don't know of any(?) other books with this rep/concept, which makes it matter more to me"
"Love the way this book is written .... A must read"
