"The concept and style of this book is interestingly very similar to Mark Manson’s The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F**k. Considering this book came out a year after Manson’s book I think Bishop decided to outright emulate that book because he’d know the urban self help style would sell so a star is taken away for originality. Even the last chapter deals with morality and the concept and meditation of death similarly to The Subtle Art so just be aware that Manson’s book is superior in every way but that doesn’t detract from the message of this book which mostly deals with self talk and affirmations. Affirmations are very hit and miss in terms of the scientific validity. I think they can work but you have to be very intentional and consistent with their use and even then are you really relentless or confident if you have to constantly affirm with yourself that you are? I think where this book succeeds is that Bishop does a good job of making you question your values and actions. That’s the real meat and potatoes of the book and where I think the real value is. I would recommend this but only after you’ve read The Subtle Art by Mark Manson first. It’s a solid supplement to that text but by itself it’s limited. "
"Not gripping. "
