"Honestly, the concept was great but was not well written. There were full sentences that just didn't even make sense and typos throughout which was very distracting. Normally once I start a new fantasy all I want is to read but this one I had to make myself go back to it. I didn't finish it. It's too long to just "push through." Very disappointed because the world itself seemed like a cool concept but just could not get into it. 🥲"
"A fantastic, creative book that hooked me from the very beginning! Wonderful world building, great characters, and a nail-biting, immersive story that made me pick up the second book as soon as I finished this one. "

"After listening to R J Barker speak in a virtual con earlier this year, immedietly I was drawn in, "ships....made of dragon bones?" The concept was so wildly fantastic, and I had read really good things about it, that I decided to take it off my TBR shelf.<br/><br/>It was well worth it, the world, is very cool, original, without the need to study a map every 20 pages. I compared the sailors life in this book, to more of the "realistic" historical fiction books I've read and I loved that even if they are made of dragon bones, the ships don't take care of themselves. <br/><br/>I already have the 2nd one lined up in my TBR pile, the only reason I didn't give this a 5 stars is I didn't love the main character Joron. I look forward to his redemption, but I think I was expecting something from him a little more....heroic?<br/>"
