There’s not much to say if you’ve watched the movie. It’s very true to the movie, word for word. This portion of the book is a very quick read. Hocus Pocus is one of my favorite movies so I was able to enjoy reading it after seeing it a thousand times. The banter of the characters is always my favorite, it’s still very much a child story and it doesn’t have any expansive plot or character development but it is a classic.

I was shocked to find out that the sequel half of this story is NOT actually based in Hocus Pocus 2. It is a completely different storyline and characters from the new movie. I actually liked this story way better than Hocus Pocus 2. Although the storyline closely follows the original story with the turn out of things, it includes a lot more avenues like more witches, hell, and we even meet the Sanderson’s mom!! It gave back story to the characters and gave them more personality than I think the original story did. The adventure they go on also seems more dire and life threatening.
Of course the book is written for children. It’s got witty banter and cheesy jokes, but it highlights the children and keeps the story true to the original characters. I think if you ever enjoyed Hocus Pocus or are a fan like me and watch it at least once a year, this book will bring you joy. It also left me with a bit of a cliffhanger so if they decide to continue this book series, I will definitely be reading with excitement. "

"First part (as mentioned well before) was a word for word take of the movie. With slight thought process added, and tweaks so the sequel would line up. I enjoyed it despite having "seen" it so many times. Second part was fun and done so well. It honored the movie while not being too easter egg (maybe some scenes, but they went by fast)."

"This book consists of the first movie and the next movie they are working on. Story 1 is verbatim to the movie. It was good, but sometimes exact dialog and events can get boring to read with no changing factors. If you're like me than you've seen Hocus Pocus enough times that you can probably quote it too.The second one wasn't as good as I thought it would be. Sequels generally aren't though. Not a bad book to read every now and than but also not at the top of my list either. I'd give it a 6/10. "
