"I enjoyed this historical fiction about Jaquetta, the lady in waiting for the french Queen Margaret, married to Henry the VI of England in the 1540’s. He was mentally ill throughout most of his reign and his weak leadership gave rise to the bloody War of the Roses. Queen Margaret raised an army despite her husbands weakness and fought to stay in power. Jacquetta, Margaret’s faithful friend, enjoyed an enduring love story with her Squire husband, turned Knight. This is the first in a series of 15 books of the Plantagenets and Tudors series by Phillipa Gregory."
"My favorite! A story of romance, passion, war, witchcraft, betrayal, and all of it takes place in the lavish English court! I find it hard to put this one down!"

"I can't decide if this is a 2 or 3 star book. At times I was really bored because it moved so slow but then it would suddenly pick up the pace. The second half of the book was much better than the first. This isn't the worst book in the series (that belongs to The White Princess in my opinion), but it is certainly not the best even though I found the subject matter fascinating."
