The Metamorphosis is a short novel by Franz Kafka, first published in 1915. It is often cited as one of the seminal works of fiction of the 20th century and is widely studied in colleges and universities across the western world. The story begins with a travelling salesman, Gregor Samsa, waking to find himself transformed into an insect."When Gregor Samsa woke up one morning from unsettling dreams, he found himself changed in his bed into a monstrous vermin." With this startling, bizarre, yet surprisingly funny first sentence, Franz Kafka begins his masterpiece, 'The Metamorphosis'. It is the story of a young man who, transformed overnight into a giant beetlelike insect, becomes an object of disgrace to his family, an outsider in his own home, a quintessentially alienated man. A harrowing—though absurdly comic—meditation on human feelings of inadequacy, guilt, and isolation, 'The Metamorphosis' has taken its place as one of the most widely read and influential works of twentieth-century fiction. This ebook has been professionally proofread to ensure accuracy and readability on all devices.

"Even though the concept for this story is centered around the horrors of waking up a giant bug, there were a lot of moments where I sympathized for Gregor's internal conflict and his obligation to his family. I feel a lot of people can relate to Gregor in that he changes from his usual routine and how his family members react to his sudden change is varied but tragic. His sister is the first one to have his back, making an effort to support him even though she's scared of him. She knows him the best. I don't want to get to into it but it relates a lot to the weight of family obligation, mental health, and the burden of uncertainty when life takes a sudden turn. I don't know if this was the intention, but it's what I took from it. I loved this book and will definitely read it over and over again. "
