"Dnf too harsh and no originality

55% DNF

To start I think I will give the author the benefit of the doubt. This was some of her earlier works. Honestly this is the first time I didn't enjoy one of Smith's books. The most frustrating part was the alien's description was fanned out over 100 or more pages. So what I thought they looked like and what they ending up looking like was not even close. Also it baffles me that the alternate cover has a normal man on it. But apparently the aliens looked almost like us which was not very orginal and kind of boring.

I am well aware of the authors writing style and prepared that the story will be harsh but this one was overly done. A lot of detail in following one of the man characters (Kane) who is a wanted felon. There was just too much detail and repetition of his cruelty. Although I did appreciate that Smith didn't cross the fine line of Stockholm syndrome and play it out as a romance.

Honestly thought about dnf sooner but I really enjoy the Authors work so I tried. 55% of the way through and nothing significant happened. POV's of the victims were thrown in and I found that I couldn't care less. It became a struggle to get through the repetition of rape and murders.

Just was highly disappointed with this but I know you have to start somewhere and I really enjoy her newer books. The wasn't much of a plot, no character arc, no originality, nothing to tie me to the story."
