The Academy

Books | Fiction / Fantasy / General

F D. LEE
It should have been a Dream Come True. Instead, everything was turning into a nightmare... Bea is the talk of the town. She is the first fairy ever to be accepted to train at the prestigious Academy. Not only that, but thanks to her, the Mirrors are working again, and the fae city of nathlin is enjoying a rare moment of prosperity. For once, life is good. So when Bea arrives at the Academy she is determined to keep quiet, behave herself and not, absolutely not, get into any more trouble. But when things start going bump in the night, Bea just can't help investigating... The Academy is the sequel to The Fairy's Tale, and picks up the story immediately after the events of that book. It brings back Bea, Melly, Joan, Ana, John and Mistasinon, among others, and introduces new characters and new villains. Written as a pastiche of classic Victorian Gothic Horror novels, it explores what it really means to be haunted... The Academy was rated 'Outstanding' for Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar; Plot and Story Appeal; and Character Development in the 5th Annual Writer's Digest Self-Published eBook Awards. Judge's comments: The Academy by F. D. Lee leads the reader into another world inhabited by creatures of fairy tales. The various tribes of elves, imps, brownies and so many more shine a light on ethnicity and racism in a quiet fashion. ...] So many sentences and phrases were worthy of savoring and saving. The vocabulary choices were carefully considered and chosen to paint word pictures for the mind's eye. I know exactly what is meant by "visiting the place beige came to die" and ponder "the subtle tang of the lie on her tongue." Reading this book was a visual experience. While fantasy is not a genre I often pursue, I really enjoyed this one
