A talented Hollywood starlet and a reclusive A-lister enter into a fake relationship . . . and discover that their feelings might be more than a PR stunt in this sexy debut for fans of Beach Read and The Unhoneymooners.“A raw, character-driven, and heart-touching read . . . I absolutely loved it.”—Elena Armas, New York Times bestselling author of The Spanish Love DeceptionONE OF THE BEST BOOKS OF THE YEAR: CosmopolitanGrey Brooks is on a mission to keep her career afloat now that the end of her long-running teen TV show has her (unsuccessfully) pounding the pavement again. With a life-changing role on the line, she’s finally desperate enough to agree to her publicist’s scheme: fake a love affair with a disgraced Hollywood heartthrob who needs the publicity, but for very different reasons. Ethan Atkins just wants to be left alone. Between his high-profile divorce, struggles with drinking, and grief over the death of his longtime creative partner and best friend, Ethan has slowly let himself fade into the background. But if he ever wants to produce the last movie he and his partner wrote together, Ethan needs to clean up his reputation and step back into the spotlight. A gossip-inducing affair with a gorgeous actress might be just the ticket, even if it’s the last thing he wants to do. Though their juicy public relationship is less than perfect behind the scenes, it doesn’t take long before Grey and Ethan’s sizzling chemistry starts to feel like more than just an act. But after decades in a ruthless industry that requires bulletproof emotional armor to survive, are they too used to faking it to open themselves up to the real thing?

"This book was enjoyable. The celebrity storyline was believable and had me wondering about the celebrity romances we read about in real life….how many of them are PR stunts? Also, celebrity sex tapes are a violation of privacy.<br/>The main characters, Grey and Ethan are well developed, and realistically flawed. Ethan broke my heart. The themes of grief, and addiction that the book centered around were palpable and sad. The relationship between Grey and her mother, and her feeling like she never had a childhood is sad. This is the reason I wouldn’t consider it a romantic comedy. These themes are heavy and important. They do not provide any comic relief. This story doesn’t leave you feeling lighthearted. <br/>Several romance tropes ( fake dating, age gap, one bed, second chance, tragic hero) are cleverly used in the telling of this story. They are weaved into the plot in plausible ways. The sexual tension between Grey and Ethan built and combusted at just the right time. I found myself rooting for them, wanting them to be together. Great sexy banter and sexy times! <br/><br/>Kudos to Ava Wilder for writing an emotional and poignant debut! Thank you to NetGalley and Random House - Ballantine for a copy of this e-ARC<br/><br/>Pub Date 6/14/2022<br/>TW: Addiction, Trauma, Grief<br/>"
"I really liked this book and think of it as more of a 4.5. The book had surprising depth and I appreciated that. It was a little too long for me in the middle to the problems being too repetitive with nothing changing, but only slightly. It deals a lot with uncovering past trauma and how it can affect people as adults. I appreciate the author so much for calling out poor behavior as an adult because you can’t blame the past forever. "This is a great debut novel by Ava Wilder, I really enjoyed reading it and the writing kept me interested and was an easy read. This is a romance book with so much character development and growth. <br/>I checked this book out because of the cover and thought it was going to be a rom-com with low angst and boy was I wrong lol. <br/><br/>In this book, the two main characters Grey and Ethan (who are actors in Hollywood)start a PR stunt and they end up having feelings for each other. Their love is angsty and full of so much drama but I promise it’s worth it in the end! <br/>I really liked how real this book was, and the issues discussed. The self-growth and healing journey that Ethan had to go through even though it took him a while was so emotional"
