"In a classic Allie move, I found an audio version of this on Audible and got really excited about it, used a credit to get it, and then realized it was abridged. I have made this mistake multiple times now, but hey, maybe 2022 is the year the lesson finally sticks.

Needless to say, a 6 hour audio book does not do a 600+ page book justice, but really I was most fascinated by the history. As an avid scholar of English history (some background: I bought a textbook that I read for fun before my last British Isles trip), I enjoyed that a few of the narrators were actual historical figures, and that the events tie very closely to the ongoing political drama of the 1660s. I fear I spent more time researching than I did listening, but it was the least I could do to make up for the fact I didn’t get the full breadth of the novel.

I would actually like to revisit this at some point since I found the conceptualization of the story really interesting, but alas, too many books and too little time at the moment!"
