Jill Scott
Writing poems and keeping journal since 1991, Jill Scott now shares her personal poetry collection in The Moments, the Minutes, the Hours. Praised for her earthy, honestly erotic, soulful and very real lyrics, Jill Scott explores all the flavors of life, love, and self. Of her music, Jill offers: "It's music. It's experiences. It's vulnerability. It's honesty. It's being a woman---an African American woman. Being a daughter, a sister, a grandchild and a Godmother. It's life. It's deeper than what I know. It's bigger than what I can see. I guess it's a dive into the human spirit." And the same will come forth in this never- before-seen collection of her poetry.

"I haven't really read a lot of poetry - picked this one up for the Reading Women challenge.<br/><br/>I liked a few of the poems but overall I don't think the style was for me. I actually enjoyed the introductory essay about how she got into poetry more than most of the poems."

"I am a huge fan of Jill Scott. I grew up listening to her music, always drawn to her words and her vibe. Her music and words have been one of the major outside influences in my womanhood. I always thought her music felt and sounded poetic. I watch a lot of spoken word performances and remember seeing her on Def Jam Poetry performing “Nothing is For Nothing,” a poem that is also included in this collection and also one of my faves. I’m glad I found out that she wrote a poetry collection. <br/><br/>This collection exudes sensuality and honesty. It may not be the deepest poetry I’ve ever read, Jill likes to call a thing a thing. However, I enjoyed every bit of it. It reminded me of my college years and how I was trying to come into my womanhood or rather find it. I appreciate Jill Scott’s in your face way of writing. It’s just as soulful as her music. If you’re a fan of Jill Scott’s music or neo-soul in general, this is for you! I know this collection is over 15 years old but I would love to see how her writing has developed over the years. <br/>"
