An electric romance set against a rebel art scene sparks lethal danger for two girls in She's Too Pretty to Burn, an expertly plotted YA thriller by Wendy Heard. The summer is winding down in San Diego. Veronica is bored, caustically charismatic, and uninspired in her photography. Nico is insatiable, subversive, and obsessed with chaotic performance art. They’re artists first, best friends second. But that was before Mick. Delicate, lonely, magnetic Mick: the perfect subject, and Veronica’s dream girl. The days are long and hot—full of adventure—and soon they are falling in love. Falling so hard, they never imagine what comes next. One fire. Two murders. Three drowning bodies. One suspect . . . one stalker. This is a summer they won’t survive.Inspired by The Picture of Dorian Gray, this sexy psychological thriller explores the intersections of love, art, danger, and power.Christy Ottaviano Books

"Thrilling, anxiety inducing, and absolutely action packed. This book was so amazing—I just couldn’t put it down. The characters were each broken in their own different way, so much so that you knew that something would push them over the edge. Life’s hardships can really get to you, and that exactly what happens here. A book about overcoming fear, loss, and your own emotions. Just because someone seems perfect doesn’t mean they are..10/10 must read with a beautiful cover to boot. "
"wowsies! this was so good. i was still kind of in a slump after reading agggtm and this really helped me! it was kind of predictable since there were two povs and i think it would’ve been better if there was only one. not really a mystery bc with mick and veronica both narrating it told u most everything. more like a murder thriller. but mick and veronicas relationship felt realistic and even though it was a little toxic, they made me happy :) but literally this book has twists and turns for days!! ⭐️4.5/5⭐️"
"I enjoyed the first half of She's Too Pretty to Burn more than the second, but it still worked out well enough. It was really interesting and mysterious in the beginning, but it gets silly and far-fetched the longer it goes on.

CW - getting kicked out, death of a child, domestic terrorism, suicidal ideation, dead animals"
"this book was really good, but it ended on a kinda cliffhanger, like there definitely could (and i say totally should) be a sequel but as of right now it’s looking like there won’t "

"This book was very interesting and there wasn't too much happening at once. It was very slow paced. Two things really stuck out to me one being the lack of depth into Mick's mommy issues. Being someone who has a similar relationship with their mom, I would've loved more depth instead of it being lightly skimmed over until it seemed helpful to bring it up again. And two Veronica's lack of boundaries. It was so lightly skimmed over and just too focus was put on the main plot, I feel as if the romance was a secondary aspect of the book and it doesn't really seem to start until halfway through. Although it's still a wonderful book with excellent plot twists, it's just very fast paced."
