"This is a surprising, non-romantic love story/ mystery filled with complex characters, with some questionable morals, and lots of twists and turns that keep you guessing. A fun read. "

"I honestly can’t figure out how I feel about this book. The writing was superb; I’m not surprised, given Dennis Lehane’s career. While this is the first book I’ve read of his, I can see why he has a legion of fans. My issue was that the whole first part of the book probably didn’t even need to exist. It wasn’t uninteresting per say, but the second and third sections were much more of what I was looking for. What is confusing is that even though I didn’t love the first 100 pages or so, I was still intrigued enough to continue, which I suppose is a testament to the style of writing. This book was long-ish, but it didn’t feel that way while reading it, which is probably why I plowed through the “boring” sections to get to the main event, so to speak. I don’t think I would recommend this, but I also didn’t regret reading it. I also don’t think I would have ever kept reading if it hadn’t been for quarantine, so I suppose there is that!"

"Wow, I really disliked this. It felt like two completely different books that had almost nothing to do with one another. I was mildly interested in the first half, but as soon as the “thriller” part set in I was completely baffled. Just way too many preposterous things happen that would be hard to believe Jason Bourne could/would pull off let alone an agoraphobic reporter. It just got silly by the end and I completely stopped caring what happened to anyone."
